High School Girls - Program History, Accomplishments, & Awards

PROGRAM HISTORY

  • Spring 2002: Bexley HS Girls Lacrosse starts under the Bexley Recreation Department

  • Spring 2005: Gillian Thomson starts coaching (takes 2007 season off for birth of child)

  • Spring 2005-2008: Team plays about 10 regular season games each season, including a few games each season where our varsity plays the other team’s JV

  • Fall 2006: Ohio Schoolgirls Lacrosse Association (OSLA) reorganizes divisions – Bexley is placed in the OSLA Club Division

  • Spring 2007: At the end of this season, Bexley Recreation no longer administers the team

  • Summer 2007: Bexley Lacrosse makes its initial proposal to the Bexley School Board to be considered a school sport; continues to present to the School Board periodically through fall 2009

  • Fall 2007: Team puts together new managing organization of parents/coaches

  • Spring 2008: Rachel Niswander starts coaching

  • Spring 2009: Team goes to the State Finals in the OSLA Club Division losing to Anderson Club 9-8 in Mason, OH

  • Fall 2009: Team is recognized (but not supported) by the Bexley City School District as a Community Athletic Club and is placed in OSLA Division II 

  • Spring 2010: Team joins the Bexley Booster family; gets matching uniforms; participates in 1st mulch delivery

  • Spring 2010: Bexley Middle School team starts; coached by Ali Bahas for several years

  • Spring 2010: Team joins newly-formed Central Independent League with CA, CSG, Wellington, Watterson, DeSales, and Hartley (Granville joins CIL in 2011)

  • Spring 2013: Rich Gatterdam starts coaching

  • Spring 2014: Team goes to the Regional Finals (farthest tournament run ever) and narrowly loses 13-12 in double OT to eventual state champion Worthington Kilbourne

  • June 2015: OHSAA votes to sponsor lacrosse beginning in 2016-17

  • Dec 2015: BCSD BOE votes unanimously to approve lacrosse as an official HS sport for the 2016-17 school year

  • Spring 2016: 5/6th grade team starts

  • Spring 2017: First season for HS team as full BHS and OHSAA sport

  • Prior to 2018 season, Gillian, Rachel and Rich step down as coaches. Maggie Bornhorst takes over as Head Coach.

  • 2021: Jackie Lund takes over as head coach
